Abu Dhabi Enters a New Era of Justice with AI-Powered Judicial Platform

Artificial intelligence is reshaping public services worldwide, and the judicial sector is now entering a new stage of that transformation. In July 2026, the Emirates News Agency reported that the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), working with the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi, had held coordination meetings to advance the AI Judicial Platform project.

The official announcement describes the project as the world’s first integrated system of its kind. It is intended to support judicial and legal decision-making through artificial intelligence while remaining subject to full human supervision and validation.

The first phase is expected to begin in September 2026, followed by a phased implementation process over approximately 18 months.

The platform is being developed as a comprehensive judicial system that can apply AI-supported capabilities across the judicial workflow. Its purpose is to strengthen the way judicial information is processed and to help streamline procedures while protecting accuracy and consistency.

It is important to understand what the announcement does—and does not—say. The platform is designed to support judges and legal professionals, not replace them. Final judicial responsibility and authority remain human.

According to the official announcement, the integrated suite of smart solutions is expected to modernise judicial operations, support faster case completion and improve the accuracy and quality of judicial processes.

ADJD’s wider digital strategy also emphasises artificial intelligence and data analytics as tools for accelerating procedures, supporting decision-making, improving administrative and judicial performance, and enhancing the user experience.

Will AI replace judges? Based on the announced framework, no. WAM states that the platform will support judicial and legal decision-making under full human supervision and validation.

AI may assist with processing information, identifying patterns or generating analytical support, but judicial decisions require legal authority, accountability and human evaluation. This human-in-the-loop model is central to responsible use of AI in justice.

The AI Judicial Platform is part of a broader digital transformation. ADJD already provides electronic access to a wide range of court, prosecution, enforcement, notary and authentication services. Its official digital channels also support case enquiries and the follow-up of electronic requests and case files.

The new platform represents a shift from making services available online to embedding intelligent assistance within the judicial workflow. It also aligns with the Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025–2027, which aims to advance AI-powered government services across the emirate.

However, the rollout is phased. The expected start of the first phase in September 2026 should not be read as confirmation that a separate public AI portal is already available for customers. Until official customer-facing features are announced, users should continue to rely on ADJD’s authorised website, applications and service channels.
